6th thru
8th Grade:
The curriculum - The Way of
Pilgrimage - helps us discover
together that our spiritual growth
is a life long journey. The purpose
is to create settings in which
youth can listen for and respond
to God’s call and develop a
stronger, deeper relationship with
God - as individuals, members of
a small group, and as part of a
community of faith. This
curriculum is the foundational
material for Confirmation.
9th thru 12 Grade:
The Senior High class is structured
as a peer group - youth led and
directed. The group will use life
experiences, faith questions, and
teen issues to direct the content
and focus of their discussions that
will lead to greater encouragement
and spiritual foundation. They will
learn to function as a small
covenant group. |

Saturday AM Reading Group - Saturdays at 8:00 a.m. -
Munden Parlor. Men & Women - all ages - study,
share and connect. Little bit of a Bible study, little
bit of a book study, and a little bit of
good, old conversation. Stimulating small group
discussions can awaken your spirituality, put "wow" into
worship, and heighten awareness of God in your daily,
sometimes mundane, activities.
Bible Study with Pastor Jamie -
Wednesdays, 4:30
p.m. - Munden Parlor. Our church
uses the Revised Common Lectionary to order our worship
experience, so this class
looks at the biblical texts for the upcoming Sunday.
Part is spent exploring the history of
the lectionary as well as talking about our personal
experience of the texts.
The class is open to all and has a “drop-in” format that
does not require advance
preparation. The intent is to enhance the Sunday worship
experience by providing an
experience of listening to, and living with, the text
prior to attending worship.
NEW CLASS:
Companions in Christ. See description below.
NOTE: Please watch our monthly newsletter - The
HAPPENINGS - for various Bible
Study groups or other classes as they are offered.

Companions in Christ: A
Small-Group Experience in Spiritual Formation
During 2009-2010, fourteen FUMC members
participated in Companions in Christ: A
Small-Group Experience in Spiritual Formation.
This 28-week course of study began in late
August 2009, and with breaks for Advent and
Lent, concluded in mid-May. During 2010 and
2011, FUMC again will be offering Companions in
Christ. Weekly meetings will be Sunday
afternoons, with breaks during Advent and Lent.
The course begins Aug. 29.
Please click here for the Companions in Christ
Intention form to fill out and return to the
church office.
Designed for adults, the Companions program
involves weekly meetings based on the previous
week's reading and daily exercises. Exercises
involve combinations of scripture reading,
spiritual practice, reflection questions, and
keeping a journal, usually taking about 20-30
minutes daily. If interested in being part of
this study, or curious to find out more, contact
Pastor Jamie,
jamie@firstumclincoln.org, 466-1906, Carol
King, clking7@msn.com, 435-7050, or Terri Storer,
tstorer@neb.rr.com, 441-7269.
Some comments from 2009-2010 participants:
"The group and personal reflection times are
wonderful blessings" ... "Companions in Christ
is a delicate balance of reflection, centering
in the presence of God, and growing in
authenticity with self and others. The exposure
to different methods of readying and
contemplating scripture engaged the senses
bringing a heightened dimension to the study"
... "Attending Companions in Christ gatherings
is like opening a large, beautiful gift. As the
tissue paper separates, and you glean what you
have received, you are overwhelmed with the
thought and meaning that the giver has put into
the gift ... It quenches your thirst for
knowledge, but keeps you wanting more" ... "In
Companions in Christ I found my way back to
prayer and the friendship and support I needed
to continue to listen for God's message. I found
that I looked forward to the guided reading
during the week and the lively, thoughtful
discussions every Sunday afternoon." |
